This Weekend

(Today's word will be in red and bold.)

This Sunday, September 9, 2012 is the big day!  The day country comes to the country near Hockinson, Washington!

By now, anyone who listens to KUPL knows that I'm talking about the station's "Stars & Guitars" concert at Alderbrook Park.  The show features artists, Andy Gibson, Dustin Lynch, The Mavericks, Lonestar and headliner, Craig Morgan.  In addition to this stellar line up, local artists, Kurt Van Meter and Cloverdayle are also on the bill.

I'm excited, not only for the concert, but for other reasons also.  One, a friend of mine is coming from Idaho to see Craig Morgan; and two, the concert is only six miles from where I live!  Never had a concert that close before.

"Stars & Guitars" is a concert in honor of military members and first responders, and several tickets were given free to these people, which is really cool.

At this writing there are still a few tickets left, for those interested in going.  The price is $20 in advance, or $25 the day of the show.

All details of what can and can't be brought to the show, etc., can be found on KUPL's website:  www.kupl.com; just click on the "Stars & Guitars" pic on their home page.

Hope to see everyone there!

I'm Totally Kidding!!!

Wow!  I just had an eye opener today!

Right now there's a lot going on, there's some stress, etc., and it's made me a bit cranky.  I know it, I know why, and I know by the end of the weekend a lot of things will be taken care of and I'll be fine.

Until then however, I'm trying my best NOT to be cranky; though it's not always working...sigh...

I have a great lead/co-worker though, Greg Baker, who tells things as they are.  He said it's okay to be cranky; however, if I keep it up, he'll start making fun of me, and he will!  Not in a mean way, but he will.

I replied back, "that's okay, I'll just write a blog about you", and smiled.  Greg's comeback was, "make fun of Nola, she'll write a blog about you"!

In that split second I had a thought and repeated it:  Yeah, I'm the Taylor Swift of blogging; cross me and I'll write about you!

It made Greg laugh, and me too; though not necessarily for the same reason.  *My* laughter was due to the second thought I had; which I kept to myself until now:  Yep, Taylor, tall,  long blonde hair, thin and young, writing about romance gone bad.  Me, short, short brown hair, very round and old, blogging about co-workers giving me a bad time!
Thank you Greg, without either of us knowing it, you helped the crankiness some.

Oh, Good Grief!

(Today's word will be in red and bold.)

This has got to stop!  Last week, twice, I almost didn't remember to get a post out for the word of the day.  Now, as I sit here writing this post, I must confess, I almost didn't get one written again!  Good grief!  Change my routine just a little, and I throw myself all out of whack!

So, once again, I do apologize for the post for today.  Once holidays, summer hours and vacations are done, maybe I won't forget that I have posts to write!

Thank you all for your patience!

Trip Update

For those who read this blog, you know that awhile back I won a trip to see Taylor Swift in Ottawa, Canada.  You also know that trip was cancelled; and while waiting for the trip to be rescheduled, I received a package with two CD's and Swift's "Wonderstruck" perfume.

Well, I'm excited to announce that a new trip has been planned in place of the Canadian one.  From October 22-24, 2012, a friend and I will be in New York City!  We don't have a complete itinerary at this point, but details should be in place within the next couple of weeks.

We do know that we'll be in Times Square at least one day.

We also know that on October 23rd we'll be part of the audience of "Good Morning America"

Taylor Swift will be on the show October 22nd, in conjunction with the release of her new CD, "Red".  She'll return to the show the 23rd as part of GMA's Fall Concert Series, performing live on the program.  This is the one my friend and I will be attending.  We'll also be meeting Taylor at that time.

Beyond that, the rest is up for speculation.  I do know that neither of us has been to NYC before, so we're really excited!  Can't wait for the rest of the details so we can make more plans for the time we're there!

And I'm Not The One On Vacation!

(Today's word will be in red and bold.)

Wow!  I want to apologize to everyone; just like Tuesday, I almost space-cased writing a post for today!  Really, when I was on vacation, I kept thinking I was supposed to get posts out.  Now it's Jake that's on vacation, yet *I'm* the one that keeps forgetting I need to write a post!  As my son would say, I'm in "derp mode".  (Smile)

I actually have one I'm working on, I just didn't have time to get it done by today; so that one will probably be posted Friday or Saturday.

For the time being though, once again, I've written a short post for those looking for today's word.

OOPS!!!

(Today's word will be in red and bold.)

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, dear me!!!  I actually almost forgot to write a post for today!  So much going on, and Jake gone for the week, I just totally space-cased this!

After asking Jake if there were going to be words for this week, (since he's on vacation), and him saying yes; I *still* almost forgot!

I thought my last post would be a short one; guess not as short as this one!  I did remember though, so happy word of the day to all the readers of this blog!  I'll try to have something more worthy to read by Thursday!

Big & Rich @ the Bing Lounge-8-21-12

(Today's word will be in red and bold.)

I'll be up front and honest about this post; it's probably going to be one of the shortest reviews I've ever written.  Yet, there's so much I could say about the evening of August 21, 2012.

As was expected, there was a capacity crowd on hand to see Big & Rich perform an intimate concert in the Bing Lounge.  Big Kenny and John Rich took to the stage as any true professionals would.  They played like they were playing for 20,000 people, not just maybe 200, at the most.  Because of the small venue, Big & Rich were also able to interact with the audience, which was cool.

As I said, Kenny & John are true professionals at what they do, and they make it look easy; which made for a nice, relaxed atmosphere.
Live shows also provide a different energy than just hearing a song on a radio, or CD.  The audience and artists feed off each other.  Sometimes songs are done differently than how they'd been recorded. Any number of things can happen during a live performance, making for a good or bad experience for the audience.

With Big & Rich, you got what you expected.  While the show was fluid and flexible with the direction it took, there was still a lot of structure in what was taking place on stage.  And while some artists sound different live than on a recording, Big & Rich proved that what you hear recorded is what you get at a live show also.  It may sound funny, but it was kind of refreshing to hear songs done live, yet, be as familiar with it as a recording.  It's a hard thing to pull off, and make it work; Big & Rich definitely succeeded in doing this.

Over all, if I could only use one word to describe Big & Rich's performance in the Bing Lounge, it would have to be AWESOME!
